Northern Hills Synagogue -Congregation B'nai Avraham
Request for Workum Intern Placement - 2009

Northern Hills Synagogue is a fully egalitarian Conservative congregation affiliated with the United Synagogue of Conservative Judaism. We are an extended family where people of all ages are welcome and encouraged to become actively involved in our services, programs, and leadership. Northern Hills Synagogue is a place for prayer and religious education; it is a place for Jewish children to meet and be with other Jewish children; it offers an opportunity to learn more about our religion, and a chance to meet and socialize with other Jewish people. It fulfills spiritual, cultural, educational and social needs in the warm, intimate and informal environment of a smaller congregation.

For 2009 Northern Hills Synagogue offers two options for a Workum Intern:

1. Assist the Director of Education and Programming:

Mission and Philosophy: The Synagogue's educational mission is to provide a program of integrated family, school and adult educational opportunities and to enhance the educational aspects of other areas of congregational life.

The Workum Intern may work on one or more of the following projects:

a) Plan an intergenerational program for the fall holidays - In anticipation of the fall holiday season, the Workum intern will help plan and organize this educational event. The intern will assist the Director in implementing the theme for the program.
b) Plan High Holiday youth services - The Workum Intern will assist the Director of Education and Programming in organizing High Holiday youth services. The intern will help plan the services, organize volunteers, and select activities to enhance the experience of the participants.
c) September, 2009 - The Workum Intern will assist in curriculum development, revising parent and teacher handbooks, and making an inventory of the Teachers' Resource Room
.

The Director of Education and Programming will supervise the Workum Intern in carrying out these tasks.

2. Conduct Membership Survey:

The synagogue has an active roster of members' interests, skills, talents and other data. The synagogue periodically interviews members, conducts focus groups, and uses surveys to gather information about its members.

The Workum Intern will:

a) Interview families,
b) conduct focus groups
c) develop survey forms
d) collate and interpret data
e) make programming recommendations to synagogue leadership

The Rabbi of the congregation will supervise the Workum Intern in carrying out this task.
