Workum Summer Intern Program Job Description- 2009

Position: Assistant to the Director of Allocations and Planning

Description of Allocation Process: During the summer, over sixty non-profit organizations submit programmatic allocation requests to the Jewish Federation. Over fifty lay leaders sit on five Councils to review these allocation requests, make site visits to all local agencies, and make funding recommendations. Council recommendations are then reviewed by the Allocation Committee and finally taken to the Federation's Board of Trustees for approval.

Job Responsibilities: The Workum Intern will be responsible for the coordination of many of the activities associated with the allocation process, including:

  • Intake and preparation of all allocation request packets
  • Data entry of requests and database maintenance throughout process
  • Research funding trends in other communities
  • Preparation of agenda and comparative spreadsheets for Council meetings
  • Coordination of Council site visits to local agencies
  • Attend all daytime Council meetings and site visits
  • Preparation of allocation letters to agencies
  • Develop allocations marketing materials

The intern will also have the opportunity to work on community planning functions including, but not limited to:

  • Working with data from New 2008 Community Study
  • Attraction of singles and young couples to Cincinnati
  • Community adult education programs
  • Israel programs

Finally, the intern will have periodic meetings with our CEO, Shep Englander, to discuss leadership, community building and our role as Jewish communal professionals.
