Workum Development/Community Relations Intern
Cedar
Village offers a full continuum of care including a 162-bed Health Care
Facility (nursing home), and 105 Assisted Living and Independent Living
Apartments. Cedar Village offers its residents and tenants a broad range
of social, religious, and cultural activities and programs designed to
meet their needs and enhance their quality of life.
The 2010 Workum Development/Resident Life Intern will be a part of the
Development Department, and will report to the Director of Director of
Development
(Sally Korkin). He/she will be responsible for the following:
- Working
on the 11th annual Cedar Village Golf Classic which will take place
in August 2010.
- Assisting
with special programs for the residents through the Berg Family Fund
for Cultural, Educational, and Recreational Activities, the Harkavy
Memorial Fund, and other programs and activities in the Resident Life
and Activities Department.
- Leading activities in his/her area of interest
- Working on a project to record information on plaques from Glen Manor
and the Orthodox Jewish Home
- Interviewing residents to obtain their life histories ( a continuation
of last summer’s Workum Intern’s project)
The Workum
Summer Intern should be:
- Enthusiastic,
energetic, and caring.
- Flexible,
dependable and motivated.
- Competent
in computer skills and photography.
- Organized
and a self-starter.
- Comfortable
and interested in developing relationships with the elderly.
- At ease
in a health care environment which includes a variety of levels of care
including
an Alzheimer's Unit.
The Workum
Summer Intern will benefit by:
- Understanding
how raising funds enhances the lives of the Cedar Village residents
and their families.
- Gaining
insight into the Jewish history of our community.
- Gaining
knowledge from people very experienced in living since our residents'
average
age is 87.
- Learning
about health care career opportunities in a geriatric setting.
Because some
meetings and programs take place in the evenings and on Sundays, part of
the Workum Summer Intern's 30-hour week may be during these time periods.
